Description:

Openly disdainful of authority in general and his superiors specifically Hanzo is a hard boiled anti-hero in the Clint Eastwood / Charles Bronson mold. His only concern is the well being of the common man and he will use any means necessary to achieve his ends, trampling over jurisdictional boundaries, willingly torturing suspects and using his own special techniques to extract information from the ladies. His sexual prowess seems a clear - though far more extreme - nod to the Bond films of the day, as does his supply of hidden weapons and wildly booby-trapped home. Throw in a funk-based soundtrack and you've got a bizarre stew of ingredients that could only have come together in the seventies. Need a quick and dirty reference point? Hanzo is the Japanese answer to Shaft.

The film opens as two men discover a female ghost at a local fishing spot. Hanzo goes to investigate and finds a masquerading female culprit and as a bonus he finds bamboo filled with gold at the bottom of the river. As he begins his standard “sexual interrogation” of the female criminal, they are interrupted by a group of ninjas that kill the woman before he an get all the information she has about the gold.

Hanzo is going to have to work overtime before his solves this mystery. Before things are said and done, he is going to find out all about the gold and learn some disturbing facts about the Shogunate.
